Dormy Inn Seoul Gangnam Review: Bought for the Bathhouse, Not the Location

The hotel sits in Gangnam, 430m from Eonju Station and 450m from Sinnonhyeon Station — two lines within a short walk, which reads well on paper.

Yet the location scores 8.7, below the hotel’s overall 9.0. That is the reverse of the Myeongdong and Hongdae properties, where the position scored higher than the hotel. The reason shows up repeatedly in guest reviews: it sits between the two stations and the walk is steeply uphill, with several guests suggesting you approach from Sinnonhyeon. In other words, 430m here is not the same as 430m on the flat.

Everyday distances are long in the way Gangnam blocks tend to be — the nearest convenience store is 1.03km away. Myeongdong is 7.65km across the river, Bongeunsa Temple 2.7km and the National Museum of Korea 4.74km. Within walking distance the property points to the Gangnam underground shopping arcade and Kukkiwon, the world taekwondo headquarters.

Gimpo Airport is 21.23km away and Incheon 51.43km, with roughly 90 minutes quoted for the airport run. That is further than the properties north of the river, which matters on arrival and departure days.

Rooms & occupancy

Opened in 2016, three stars, 220 rooms across 16 floors. Actual stay records show Standard Single, Double, Twin and Queen plus Superior Double and Queen, with Superior rooms assigned to floors 10–16. The property is entirely non-smoking. There is also a cheaper unassigned-room option if you are willing to skip choosing floor and type.

Guests describe the rooms as typical business-hotel size. Several also note that even the smallest room felt open because of the high ceilings.

Families should check the age rule first. Children aged 6 and under stay free, but from age 7 a guest counts as an adult and needs a paid extra bed. A single year of age can move your total, so confirm the policy before you book.

Facilities

The public bath is the centre of this hotel. There is a hot tub, a sauna and a spa, and it is the feature guests mention most often alongside breakfast. Reviews describe it as small but clean. Being able to walk in after a full day and soak is precisely what separates this from a similarly priced city-centre room.

Breakfast draws consistent praise — a wide menu, and good. One guest reasonably points out that if you are not a big breakfast eater, it is worth checking whether the breakfast-inclusive rate is actually better value for you.

There is also a restaurant and dry-cleaning service. Guests rated service 9.494, the highest scoring item at this property, and domestic travellers give it 9.3 on average.

The trade-off is straightforward: strong shared facilities, ordinary rooms. If your plan is to spread out in the room itself, this hotel’s strengths go unused.

Compared & alternatives

Against L7 Myeongdong this is close to an opposite. Myeongdong scores 9.7 on location and puts you 110m from a station, but has neither bathtub nor pool. This one scores 8.7 on location with a hill in the way, and has the bath and sauna.

Look at where the score comes from and the character is obvious. 9.0 overall across 23,529 reviews, location alone at 8.7, and the top-scoring item is service at 9.494. You are buying the facilities and the operation, not the position.

The 430m to the station being 430m uphill, and a convenience store a kilometre away, are things you feel every day on a walking trip. But if bath-and-rest time is part of how you travel, this is the best fit on this list.
